A Tribute to Consul Mario Cuevas
April 4, 1954-March 3, 2021
The community lost a champion of the people and the arts this month with the passing of Mexican Consul Mario Cuevas Zamora. We honor Consul Mario Cuevas in this edition and remember him as a dear friend of the arts and supporter of our mission at OCCTAC. Consul Mario Cuevas was a wonderful OCCTAC friend and community partner. May he rest in eternal peace with all the angels in heaven! Click the link below to see a video that we made a few years ago of him:
Consul Cuevas was born on in 1954 in Mexico City and he worked in public service for more than 40 years. He worked at posts around the world before coming to Santa Ana, including the UN in Geneva, and Consulates in Montreal, San Diego and New York. “Consul Mario Cuevas’ mission to serve our community through arts and culture programs is a model example of leadership and advocacy to foster education and to support sectors of our community who are underrepresented. As the director of arts education at OCCTAC, I am ever grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with him. These collaborations yielded everlasting smiles from our community and specifically from our children.” – Carlos Beltran Arechiga, Director of Arts Education.

Student Success With
Early Learning Program
“Despite the pandemic and all the constraints it brings to keep everyone safe, there's no stopping the eagerness and enthusiasm of my four-year old daughter, Lileana. I'm so thankful we have the Alphabet Soup program at OCCTAC as part of our weekly routine. My daughter is able to engage with her peers safely through online classes, but more importantly she is able to continue building on the fundamentals of school readiness through the devoted guidance of Ms. Claudia. I watch in awe as my daughter gets crafty and inventive all while learning her alphabet and numbers in this “new normal” we are all having to go through. Thank you OCCTAC for working harder than ever to keep providing for our children!”
