OCCTAC Students Record Original

Song With El Santo Golpe!

Our heartfelt thanks to Gold Pacific Studios, Festival of Children Foundation, and El Santo Golpe for the exciting professional experience of recording an original song! OCCTAC Prep Arts students recorded an original song, “El Mundo Entero”, with international recording and touring artists El Santo Golpe at the historic Gold Pacific Studios in Newport Beach on Saturday, June 25. Hosts Cassady Taylor and crew from The Festival of Children Foundation gave us a studio tour, and Gold Pacific Studios engineer Brandon Gillies made everyone feel right at home. OCCTAC student musician Jesus Reyes said, "Hands down this is one of the best experiences of my life!"

The El Mundo Entero project is a culminating piece created after months of hard work, a unique collaboration between both special needs and typical students from OCCTAC and professional musicians. The project started at OCCTAC in August 2021 as part of the Performance Skills Class for our Magnet Program. El Santo Golpe wrote the piece, “El Mundo Entero”, especially for OCCTAC’s students to perform together as a group. This song will be one of OCCTAC’s featured ensemble selections for performances such as the Festival of Children in September, Bloom 2023, and Hollywood Forever Day of the Dead (pending). The song involves 14 students, 2 teachers, and lead vocalist, Ulises Rodriguez, from El Santo Golpe. During the year, Mr. Rodriguez conducted instrumental workshops for guitar and accordion with OCCTAC students. Thank you, Pacific Studios, Festival Of Children Foundation, and El Santo Golpe for making this incredible experience happen!

Henkel Corporation’s West Coast operations, based in Irvine CA, invited OCCTAC to partner as their donation recipient during their team building event at the Hyatt Regency, Newport Beach, May 19, 2022. Henkel Adhesive Technologies is the global leader in the adhesives market – across all industry segments worldwide. Bringing in their global team to develop corporate strategy, they designed a collaborative art event and used the opportunity to partner with OCCTAC and carry out the Street Art theme, entitled “Win Big Together.” They utilized world-famous street artist, "Man-One" to guide the team in developing their own street art murals and partnered with OCCTAC to offer a $1500 art supply donation. Special Thank you to Henkel’s Project Management Officer and Strategy Analyst, Jake Vlacich for spearheading the partnership. We are very thankful for Henkel’s generous donation, as it greatly assists in providing premium art kits for our Summer Programs and Community Outreach. We look forward to partnering in the future for larger community events, with greater outreach. Thank you to Henkel Corporation for supporting OCCTAC’s goal of giving the life-changing healing power of the arts to our community!

OCCTAC is so grateful for the generous support of Floral Park Association and Henkel Corporation this month! The Floral Park Association selected OCCTAC as one of its charity partners this year and recognized our contributions to the community at their annual culminating ceremony on June 12. OCCTAC Music Coordinator Phoebe Stanciell attended the event at the home of Sandy DeAngelis where she was presented with a generous check for $700. The funds from the Floral Park Association will be used to help purchase instruments for expansion of our Prep Arts strings program. Thank you, Floral Park Association for your generosity and recognition of OCCTAC!

OCCTAC's Community Wellness

Program Celebrates Life!

On Friday, June 10, OCCTAC’s Community Wellness and Mental Health program hosted a “Celebrating Life” event with over 60 participants at OCCTAC's covered patio. Students from the Healing Arts and Crises Counseling Program entertained everyone with a magical performance, and participants engaged in healing arts activities and took turns talking about how they choose to celebrate life after two years of a pandemic. The event was truly a celebration of life and included art, music, food, and raffles. Thank you to Axel Melendez and the CCP staff for giving us a beautiful afternoon to enjoy and another great reason to celebrate life!

EISOA Raising COVID-19 Awareness Through

Art and Creativity

On June 11, 2022, our older adult participants and families from the community attended a special breakfast. OCCTAC celebrated our fathers and taught attendees about COVID-19. During the event, our case managers provided activity books about COVID-19 and distributed PPE. We discussed the pandemic, the importance of getting the boosters, and received feedback from the participants. One participant stated, “the pandemic affects me very hard. I lost friends and family members to COVID-19 and I want to be an active member to fight against it. I will explain to all the people I know about what I learned here today.” However, not all was about the pandemic! Our participants had the opportunity to celebrate our fathers' special day with a continental breakfast, fun, and presents. This wonderful event was made possible by the Neighborhood Partnership Grant from the City of Santa Ana.
