OCCTAC News - February 2021

Thanks to generous funding by the Artists In Schools and Youth Arts Action grants, in collaboration with the California Arts Council, OCCTAC is offering free Dance Classes to the Santa Ana community in preparation for the recording of our upcoming music video! The video features Tito’s Puente “Oye Como Va” as part of our music video program titled “Music Across Cultures”.

Our Dance and Movement Coordinator, Claudia de la Cruz has been working with our Santa Ana families for years teaching Flamenco. The music video program includes OCCTAC participants ages 6 years to senior citizens as they prepare to be featured in our production. “Oye Como Va” is played and recorded by our Music, Visual Arts and Dance students and families, and will be filmed in multiple outdoor locations in April.

The physical engagement and the joy of exercising with dance continues to yield positive engagement for our families and community!

Media Arts Expanding In 2021

The media arts department keeps on expanding in 2021! Recently, we had an incredible donation from Carol V. Avellino, who donated 16 computers with monitors. This generous gift will allow the video production class to expand its capabilities and enable each student to have a computer to work on their projects during class time or during the week. Within the next few weeks, the media arts department plans to develop a pod-like set up so students can work on their projects in a safe and friendly environment. Thank you, Carol!

Thank You, Vineyard of Anaheim!

On Tuesday, February 16, Vineyard of Anaheim provided OCCTAC with 100 boxes of food for our families! The food was donated to our Family Mentoring program, which serves family with special needs students, and to our EISOA program, which serves older adults. Thank you to Ann Marie at Vineyard of Anaheim for the generous food donations and to Janett Merino and Edith Garcia from our Family Mentoring program for leading the food distribution at OCCTAC. Most of our clients are going through quite critical economic circumstances and we were grateful to help alleviate some of their discomfort with these boxes of delicious and nutritious food. Thank you, Vineyard of Anaheim and all who helped make this day possible!
